Surf Camp vs Surf House – Why We Believe a Surf House Is the Ideal Choice for a Couple
Surf camps are great to party and socialise. A surf house is for surfing, relaxing, and enjoy the “couple life”
Surf camps have their charm, they’re social, energetic, and often built around group experiences, parties, and busy schedules. They’re perfect if your priority is meeting lots of people, sharing dorm rooms, partying and having your schedule packed with group activities.
But when you’re not 18 anymore and you are traveling as a couple, your needs are different.
On the other tip of the scale, we did not have the budge nor we thought we could fit into fancy surf resorts based on some tropical island where you spend 400€ a night and you feel more like a colonialist than a surfer.
So after many success and disappoint surf trips we realised that maybe we could have found a middle ground: a surf house could offer something deeper and more intimate: space to breathe, time to reconnect, no strict schedules and an environment designed for shared moments.
Instead of rushing from activity to activity, you can wake up slowly together, surf at your own pace, enjoy quiet breakfasts, unwind after sunset, and feel like you’re living inside your own experience, not one imposed by group dynamics.
It’s not just about surfing. It’s about surfing well, resting fully, and creating memories that feel personal, calm, and meaningful.
A Surf House Built by a Couple for Couples
Our personal experience and how we built Lemontree thinking about the perfect couple surf holiday (read more about our story here)
Lemontree was never meant to be just another surf accommodation.
It was born from our relationship, our travels and our shared dream of creating a place where every couple could experience the “the surf holiday that we wished for ourselves”
When we imagined our perfect surf holiday together, we didn’t think of crowded rooms or loud parties. We thought of:
- Private spaces
- Slow mornings
- No schedules
- Sunsets after long surf sessions
- Healthy food shared at a cozy table
- A peaceful atmosphere where love, nature, and surfing come together
Every decision we made from there, the design of the rooms to the mood of the common spaces, was shaped by one question:
“Would we love to stay here as a couple?”
That’s how Lemontree became a surf house, designed not just for surfers or yogis but for partners.

Sagres, Portugal A Romantic Surf Destination (Noemi and I Are the Proof)
It still feels a little crazy to us how perfectly the energy of a place can match the energy of a couple.
From the very first moment we arrived in Sagres, Noemi and I felt it. This quiet sense of belonging, like the landscape was speaking our language. Sagres is small, cozy, and unpretentious. It has the warmth of a village where you can easily become part of the community, meet familiar faces, and share stories over coffee or dinner.
But what we love most is the freedom to choose:
If you feel social, you can connect with people, join the local rhythm, and feel part of something alive. And if you crave solitude, Sagres always offers an escape a hidden corner on the cliffs, an empty stretch of sand, or a secret sunset spot where it’s just the two of you and the ocean.
For us, the magic lies in the balance:
the raw, untamed nature…
the silence and peace that slow you down…
the dramatic coastlines that invite reflection…
and the little luxuries that make your days just perfect: gourmet restaurants for long date nights, cozy cafés to linger in and warm, intimate spaces to simply spend time together.
Sagres didn’t just become our favourite surf destination.
It became part of our story.

Why Lemontree Fits a Surfy Couple Dynamic
Boutique surf house, private rooms, privacy, calm and comfort
Lemontree is intentionally small, boutique, and personal.
We value quality over crowds, creating an atmosphere that feels relaxed, intimate, and welcoming.
For couples, this means:
- Private rooms designed for comfort and rest
- Quiet spaces to unwind after surf sessions
- A peaceful vibe without loud parties
- A perfect location that allows slow moving only by feet or bike
It’s a place where you can feel connected to others without losing your own rhythm, and where shared experiences feel organic rather than forced.

Surf, Yoga, Skate & Outdoor Adventures for Couples
In our experience, couple life can become challenging when two people share the same passions — but live them at different levels, rhythms, or intensities. Even love for the same activities can create tension when one partner feels pushed to move faster, perform better, or step outside their comfort zone just to keep up.
We understand this deeply — because we’ve lived it ourselves.
That’s why at Lemontree, we don’t believe in forcing couples to move at the same speed. Instead, we create space for shared experiences without pressure, where both partners can live the same journey but at different speeds
Surfing is the perfect example:
Not every couple surfs at the same level, and that’s not a problem, In fact, it’s completely natural. That’s why we offer different surf formats, so each partner can get what they truly need:
surf coaching for more advanced surfers, and group surf lessons for beginners who want a supportive, fun learning environment.
This way, couples can:
- Progress individually, without pressure
- Feel proud of their own journey
- Reconnect afterward to share the excitement
- Support and motivate each other, at their own pace
And the best part? Outside of the waves is where couples reunite, to relax, laugh, and enjoy time together without competition or comparison.
You’ll be able to enjoy together:
- Yoga sessions to stretch, unwind, and reconnect
- Surfskate sessions for playful, lighthearted fun
- Outdoor adventures: hikes, beach days, bike rides, kayaking and crazy sunsets
